Set Design for Anxietina (The Situation)
Text & performance by Hannah BlackSound by Bonaventure

For the performance Anxietina (the Situation) the gallery space is transformed into a red living room, with a couch and a TV streaming live news. As stand-ins for windows there are three flags, with the name of the fictional superhero character around which the performance revolves. The flags take use of moiré, an interference pattern, and their message is legible only as an illusion. When the fabric is moving, the text disappears and re-appears – with the result of an ambiguous, unreliable carrier of information. Temporary material illusions, they investigate the symbolic power of flags and how their visual language is interrupted and redefined by patterns of interference.
